My Hero, My Friend

Today I lost one of my dearest friends and constant companions. Simon. I called him Super Simon because he always went the extra mile. He is not in Dog Heaven, he is in Heaven. If there is such a thing as Karma, because of his life here with me, he was promoted to the real place. He protected me, was concerned that wherever I went that I wouldn't be as careful as he would want me to be! If anyone came, I would know. And there wasn't anyone he wouldn't bark at. He would bark, and I would say, "Oh it is Patrice or Jordan or Barbara." Then he would know that it was O.K. He would be friendly and say hello, but always, always came back to be with me. His eyes would follow me and make sure I was fine.

How does one get over losing a friend that cared so much?

I guess I will have to find out.

Annie, Bill and I all have lumps in our throats. Simon was a mountain of a dog! So fierce, yet a total teddy bear.
Annie say's "I thought Simon was so cute. I like Simon. He licked me a lot, and it felt like he kept me, LaLa Pat and Frida safe."
We embrace you Pat as you mourn your dear Simon.

So sorry to hear about your loss...it's very hard to lose our furry buddies when their time comes, I've been through it more times than I care to count, but all have lived long happy lives with lots of love and friendship. I look at my Max's graying muzzle and wonder how many years I have left with him, I can't imagine my world without having the best of good boys in it...but then I just make the best of the time I have with him in the present (well, he's all about "the now", cuz that's how he is, he has no clue about mortality.) Tonight, we'll sit for a bit in the fresh cut grass out front and watch the world go by, wait for the storm to chase us inside. It's not going to be easy, but the sadness changes with time, and soon enough, the memories of Simon will be sweeter. And a new friend always comes along at the right time to fill the hole.

All my best, hugs n' kisses (and there's a wagging tail coming your way too!)

LaLa Pat! I worte a note over at Making Peace as well, but I just wanted to say that we are all sorry for your loss. :(
Our "rescue" dog has certainly rescued *us*, and we appreciate all that he brings to our lives. Both you and Simon were very lucky to have found one another.
